ISTP Motivations

When people are energized, driven, and focused, it can usually be attributed to energy-driving behaviors. Therefore, it’s important to know what kinds of activities motivate each personality type.

Myers-Briggs ISTP Motivations

ISTP personality types tend to be motivated and energized by...

  • Taking things apart and figuring out how they work
  • Flexible schedules that allow them to be impulsive
  • Freedom to be independent and alone
  • Exciting new adventures and experiences
  • Finding practical solutions to difficult problems

ISTPs tend to thrive when they have a chance to figure out how things work. They’re likely to want to physically engage with something by taking it apart and trying to put it back together again. They love tasks that allow them to learn more about the intricacies involved in something.

They thrive when they aren’t bound to a strict schedule, but instead, have the opportunity to pursue new opportunities when they want. They’re naturally impulsive and don’t like feeling restricted by a formal routine or schedule.

ISTPs enjoy having the space to work on their own. They are naturally reserved and independent, so they tend to be motivated by time spent thinking and working alone, rather than with other coworkers.

They love experiencing new things and finding new adventures. They prefer to explore things on their own, though, or with one or two close friends, rather than with a group. Whether it’s a new restaurant, a concert, or job, ISTPs don’t tend to take opportunities for granted.

ISTPs love being able to find a practical solution to a tricky problem. They tackle the problem right in front of them, rather than spending too much time thinking about what they should do. They’re likely to test many options and figure things out as they go before finding the best solution for the problem.

When ISTPs are able to engage in energizing tasks, they’ll feel happier and more productive. They’ll be able to put their abilities to good use and enjoy the work they’re doing, which will likely improve their overall engagement in a work environment.
