INFP Weaknesses

Although INFPs have many wonderful skills and strengths that can benefit everyone around them, they also have blind spots that can negatively impact them. If INFPs don’t learn to manage or overcome potential areas of weakness, their strengths may be overshadowed and harmed.

Myers-Briggs INFP Weaknesses

Weaknesses that are typically associated with the INFP personality type include...

  • Having difficulty accepting disappointment or failure
  • Taking criticism too personally
  • Struggling to share about themselves
  • Potentially overlooking fine details
  • Neglecting to consider their own wants and needs

INFPs may have trouble accepting or understanding disappointment or failure. Because they tend to be fairly sensitive, they’re less likely than others to let go of hardships easily and may get hung up on things that they did wrong. It’s important that INFPs learn to be open to failing and understand that making mistakes is natural and human.

Similarly, they have a tendency to take criticism personally, even if it wasn’t meant that way. They worry about what others think and may be upset or offended to learn that someone perceived something they did or said as wrong. But by changing their understanding of “wrong”, INFPs can learn to be less sensitive to what other people may think or say.

Because they are naturally reserved, INFPs often have a hard time sharing about themselves, which can affect how they seek help for problems, talk up their accomplishments in interviews, or allow new people to get to know them. It may help INFPs to talk to friends or family who may be able to see their individual strengths more easily and can give them the boost they need to appreciate their own value.

INFPs tend to be very big-picture-focused, which means they are more likely to overlook small details. They are likely to prioritize the overall idea rather than the specifics, which may cause problems if they’re put in charge of planning a big event, solving an intricate problem, or remembering small bits of information. However, keeping track of the details by writing them down in something like a day planner, notebook, or even their phone can make a huge difference.

Their natural care for others can also come at a major cost - they often overlook their own wants and needs. They may not even realize they are doing it until they work themselves into exhaustion. However, it’s important that they learn to slow down, identify what they want or need, and take the time to honor it.

By making an effort to acknowledge, understand, and work through their blind spots, INFPs can ensure that they are healthy and well-rounded. Implementing a few easy changes can mean the difference between feeling easily hurt or unsure and exuding confidence and security.
